I used a science fiction setting for the theme but I could just as well have used any genre, since it is a story of a young girl who has to grow up under exceedingly horrendous conditions. It is a novel of survival under adversity. As Lyda grows, you'll find her in different environments and having to face different threats because nothing stays the same for long--except Lyda's integrity.
